Terms of Service — Hearthhall for Discord

Last updated 6 September 2026.

These cover the Hearthhall Discord application. The site terms cover your Hearthhall account and everything you do on the website, and they apply here too — this page adds what is specific to the bot rather than repeating them.

1. What the bot is for

One thing: bringing a Discord server’s roleplay history into a Hearthhall campaign, so a group that has been playing in Discord can carry what it wrote with it. An administrator adds the bot, chooses a channel, and its messages become threads and posts in a campaign they own.

It reads history when asked. It does not listen to your server, does not respond to ordinary messages, and holds no connection to Discord in between. What it reads is set out in the bot privacy notice.

2. Who may add it

Adding the bot to a server requires Discord’s Manage Server permission, which is Discord’s check rather than ours. Ours is this: by adding it and running an import, you confirm that you are entitled to do so on behalf of that community.

That is not a formality. An import copies other people’s writing into a campaign they may know nothing about. If you are not the person who should be making that decision for your server, do not make it.

You must also be at least 16, the same floor as the rest of Hearthhall.

3. What you may not use it for

  • Importing a server you have no connection to, or one you joined in order to take its contents.
  • Collecting messages or member details for any purpose other than building your own campaign’s archive — including scraping, list-building, resale, or training a model.
  • Importing material that breaks the content policy. The rules that apply to what you post here apply to what you bring here.
  • Anything that breaks Discord’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, which govern your use of Discord regardless of what we say here.
  • Working around the bot’s limits — automating it, driving it from another program, or trying to make it read channels it was not given.

4. What it costs

Nothing. Importing your history is free and is intended to stay free, including for campaigns on the free plan. The plan limits described on the plans page still apply to the campaign an import lands in — how many people can be seated in it, and how much storage it holds — but the writing itself is not metered.

5. Removing it

Remove the bot from your server at any time from Discord’s server settings. Nothing here has to be asked first, and removing it stops all further access immediately.

Removing the bot does not delete writing already imported: it belongs to the campaign it was imported into and is the GM’s to keep or delete. Anyone whose writing was imported can ask us to remove it — see section 7 of the bot privacy notice.

We may remove the bot from a server, or refuse it access, where it is being used for something in section 3. Where we do, we will say why if there is somebody to say it to.

6. No promises about availability

The bot is provided as it is. Discord’s API may change, rate-limit us, or stop returning what an import needs, and an import may fail or stop part-way for reasons outside our control. Hearthhall is run by one person, and section 8 of the site terms — availability, and the absence of promises about it — applies to the bot in full.

Nothing here is a backup service. Your Discord history remains in Discord and an import does not remove it; keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

7. Liability, law, and changes

Sections 11 to 13 of the site terms apply to the bot without modification: the limits on liability, the law of the Czech Republic, and how these terms change. They are there rather than repeated here so there is only one copy to keep honest.
